Pantone 2014 Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid

Did you guys hear the big news?  Yesterday morning, Pantone announced the color of the year for 2014, and let me tell you, it’s a good one.  Everybody, feast your eyes on this beauty: Radiant Orchid.

I’m going to be completely honest: when I first saw the color, I was kind of “meh” about it.  Purple? Come on.

But then I started looking at interiors that featured this color.  And the more I saw it, the more I liked it.  The color has such depth to it – it isn’t all dark and moody like your basic violet.  No, this vivid hue is bright and fresh and I can already see it being huge in fashion come spring.

As far as translating it into home decor is concerned, I’m all for the less is more approach.  This color works well with simple color palettes, bringing a fun, fresh, pop of color into the mix.  Just look at how a tiny burst of it brings these simple spaces to life.

I really love the way it pairs with a deep navy too.

And it even works well with the 2013 color of the year.

For those of you that don’t fully understand the concept of a “color of the year,” or want to know how they decided on Radiant Orchid (cough cough, Noel), here’s a great little video snippet for you to check out.

So, what do you all think about Radiant Orchid?  Do you think you’ll be brave and incorporate it in your home decor?  In your wardrobe?  I’m not sure how it will weasel its way into my life quite yet, all I know is that despite my initial reaction, I can definitely say I’m a fan.  Leave some love below and let me know what you think!

I’m usually anti-purple. BUT! I agree with you–in design, it looks great as a pop here and there
