our home: the massive update list

We’ve been busy little bees over here the past few weeks.  In addition to working my booty off designing & building my new website, Noel & I have been going non-stop trying to finish a bunch of projects around the house.  I’m not going to reveal any full rooms until the new blog/website is launched, but I promise you, it will be happening soon!

In the mean time, here are some snapshots of what’s been going on in our neck of the woods.

Front Porch:
We got these two snazzy new porch chairs.  I love the bright floral pattern of the pillows (I have to do whatever I possibly can to make it feel like spring since it’s currently sleeting here), and I’m also obsessed with that lantern.

I also updated our wreath by removing the winter decor and adding some spring flowers.  Because we don’t have a ton of extra storage space, instead of buying a new wreath for each season, I bought the twig wreath you see below, and just change out the flowers/accents.  It’s a great way to prevent yourself from having to store a dozen different wreaths.

Main Floor:
The pantry project that we started, oh, 2 months ago is finally coming together.  From the outside, it almost looks 100% complete.  We just need to patch the ceiling in the one spot that you see.  Inside, we still have to install the shelves and put up a few more pieces of trim. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Noel said that this project felt anticlimactic because when we “finished” the outside, the pantry looked like it had always been there (which I said is really a good thing, because you don’t want it to look out of place).  Plus, since it’s taken us so long, it wasn’t an immediate before and after, so it’s hard to remember what it looked like before.
I’ve also been searching for the perfect accent chairs for our living room for some time, and I finally found them.  I’m so in love.  What do you guys think?  I love how they tie in the black we have everywhere with the color of the wood trim in the house.

Master Bathroom:
I really can’t stand popcorn ceiling, and the fact that we are putting new popcorn up (to patch the hole where we opened the ceiling) just kills me.  I would LOVE to scrape it all off downstairs, but I just don’t think I have it in me to tackle a space that large.  So to make up for it, I decided to scrape all the popcorn off the ceiling in our bathroom.
Then we removed the existing linoleum flooring and installed a dark wood-looking tile.  We are both in LOVE with the finished tile.
We’re going to run board and batten up the bottom half of the walls, and the top will be painted in Sherwin Williams Sea Salt.  You can see a little bit of the color in the picture below.

So, that’s what we’ve been up to the past few weeks.  Have you guys been doing any home improvements of your own?  Let’s hear about them!

wedding wednesday: chiffon

One of my favorite fabrics for outdoor summer weddings is chiffon.  Whether it is used in the wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, or decor, I think it is just stunning.  I love how soft, romantic and flowy it is, and it brings in a touch of whimsy into the wedding.

{1} Mori Lee Bridal Gown 1809 – The Wedding Shoppe – $798
{2} Jim Hjelm JH 5908 – Half Bridal – $275
{3} J.Crew Arabelle Dress Silk Chiffon – J.Crew – $250
The same holds true when you use chiffon inspired fabrics in your home decor.  You can achieve that same sense of whimsy by using sheer curtains in various places throughout your home.  When the windows are open, this delicate fabric will flow in the breeze, creating such an airy and romantic space.  Below are some of my favorite places to use sheers in your home.
