spotlight: urban outfitters

Notice anything different around these parts?  The blog is getting a little bloggy makeover, which is currently in progress.  So pardon the mess.  The last layout was leaving me feeling a little claustrophobic, so I’m in the process of simplifying and streamlining.  But if you glance on over to the right side, you’ll see some exciting new things.  Namely, some wonderful new sponsors.  And today, we’re going to talk about one of them: Urban Outfitters.
While most people often associate Urban Outfitters with fun, funky clothes, what you may not know is that they have some seriously awesome and unique items for your home.  From furniture to bedding to artwork, they’ve got it all, and I can guarantee you it’s all stuff you’ve never seen before.
Quirky, fun, funky, fresh – head on over and take a looksy at some of their amazing products…or at least take a look at some of my faves:

wedding wednesday: chiffon

One of my favorite fabrics for outdoor summer weddings is chiffon.  Whether it is used in the wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, or decor, I think it is just stunning.  I love how soft, romantic and flowy it is, and it brings in a touch of whimsy into the wedding.

{1} Mori Lee Bridal Gown 1809 – The Wedding Shoppe – $798
{2} Jim Hjelm JH 5908 – Half Bridal – $275
{3} J.Crew Arabelle Dress Silk Chiffon – J.Crew – $250
The same holds true when you use chiffon inspired fabrics in your home decor.  You can achieve that same sense of whimsy by using sheer curtains in various places throughout your home.  When the windows are open, this delicate fabric will flow in the breeze, creating such an airy and romantic space.  Below are some of my favorite places to use sheers in your home.

sliding doors

Recently, I have been drooling over the large, colorful sliding doors I have been seeing all over the internet.  These doors are a way to create a very unique focal point in a room, and they are beautiful whether they are open or shut.  In the first group below, you can see that many modern homes are adding a vintage rustic feeling by adding a sliding “barn door.”  In the second group, more contemporary styles are utilized.

If you head over to House Tweaking, Dana posted a tutorial for this fun yellow door.

Don’t you just love the visual interest these doors add to the room?!  I know I sure do…
